Yellow-bellied Sapsucker
The Yellow-bellied Sapsucker is a quirky little woodpecker with a big personality and a sweet tooth for tree sap. With bold black-and-white stripes and flashes of red on its head, it looks like it got dressed in a jazzy outfit. It drills neat rows of tiny holes in trees—its own personal “sap bar”—then comes back to sip the sugary treat and snack on the bugs that get stuck there. Catching one at work feels like watching a tiny forest bartender in action.
